On this week’s Insider episode, Joyce Vance is joined by CAFE contributor Nita Farahany, while Preet is out. Farahany is a professor of law and philosophy at Duke Law School and a leading expert on the ethical and legal implications of emerging technologies.

Joyce and Nita discuss the U.S.’s failure to put in place proper safeguards for AI, and what Congress must do to keep pace with the growing risks. Plus, they break down the meaning of “cognitive liberty,” President Trump’s AI plans, and the ways in which AI is impacting courtrooms and health care.

Joyce Vance:

From CAFE and Vox Media Podcast Network, welcome to the Insider podcast. I’m Joyce Vance. Preet is out this week so we’re joined by a very special guest, a new member of the CAFE family, Nita Farahany. Nita is a professor of law and philosophy at Duke University. She’s also a scholar of neuroscience and the ethics of emerging technologies. We’re delighted that she recently became a Cafe contributor and listeners may remember she co-hosted the Stay Tuned miniseries, AI on Trial, last year with Preet. Thanks for being here, Nita.

Nita Farahany:

Thanks for having me.
