Sometimes investigations are like a chess match. For every move, there is a counter move.
Now that key witnesses in the January 6 Committee’s investigation have invoked their Fifth Amendment rights against self-incrimination, one obvious counter move is to grant them immunity. But just as in chess, investigators need to anticipate not just the next move, but the one after that.
