Seven Democratic presidential candidates will take the stage this evening in Los Angeles for a debate hosted by PBS Newshour and POLITICO. Soon enough, the Democratic nominee will face off against President Trump in the general election. But this week, Trump suggested he may skip the debates traditionally hosted by the Commission on Presidential Debates.

In a tweet thread, Trump alleged that the nonprofit group is “very biased” and “stacked with Trump Haters.” He cited that time in September 2016 when, during a debate against Hillary Clinton, his microphone malfunctioned. (The Commission acknowledged the technical glitch, but never apologized for it.) Trump further said, “the debates are up to me, and there are many options, including doing them directly,” raising the possibility of participating in more than the usual three debates if the events are sponsored by a different organization.
